An Update on COVID-19 In Boston

COVID-19 is continuing to spread across the US. Vaccines have begun rolling out in Boston and surrounding areas, but it’s going to be a lengthy process to get a majority percentage of people vaccinated to slow or stop the spread. Boston is opening in phases, with each additional phase opening more locations than the one before. The city is currently at phase IV of reopening, and will remain at the current phase until there’s a more significant drop in the number of cases in the area.

Current Stats

Boston currently has over 4,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. That number may sound high, but out of over 68,000 total confirmed cases since covid began, over 64,000 recovered. The spread of the virus has slowed significantly with vaccine rollouts and is expected to continue dropping as more people get vaccinated. You can find the latest vaccine info here

What’s Open?

Things are slowly but surely reopening in Boston, with new guidelines of course. Restaurants, summer camps, concert halls, and more are all reopening. Many of these locations are operating at a lower capacity to adhere to the state guidelines. View a full list of what’s been reopened here

Places that are still closed include:

  • Street festivals and fairs
  • Amusement parks
  • Water parks
  • Breweries and wineries
  • Bars and dance clubs
  • Saunas and hot tubs at fitness centers and similar facilities

Gathering Guidelines

Private gatherings should be limited to 10 people in an indoor setting and 25 people in an outdoor setting. Public gatherings in Boston may have 60 people indoors and up to 100 people outdoors. That is a lower amount than the Massachusetts state gathering guidelines due to the concentration of cases in Boston. Popular locations for private and public events, such as convention halls, are allowed to operate so long as they adhere to the gathering guidelines. Dancing on a dance floor is allowed at weddings and other private or public events that have the allotted number of guests.
